The base was first formed in 2001, with 1 Eskadra Lotnictwa Taktycznego (1.ELT) being the main unit stationed there flying the Mikoyan MiG-29 (9.12A) and MiG-29UB (9.51A). The units primary role is that of air defence covering both Polish and wider Nato airspace, including that of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. Also units based at Mil'sk Mazowiecki is the 2nd Search and Rescue Group flying the Pzl W3 Sokol.

Mikoyan MiG-29 (9.12A) and MiG-29UB (9.51A) Fulcrum.
